I’m Grecia Parra a chef specializing in Mexican cuisine.
My love for cooking started at a very young age. It was a mixture between watching Julia Childs on PBS and growing up around great cooks. My Mother was and still is an amazing cook, while my Grandmother on my Father’s side was always a master in the kitchen. I remember watching cooking shows on television and the feeling that it evoked in me. From that moment I knew that food would play an integral role in my life.
In my mid-twenties I enrolled in culinary school. I knew from the first day of class that I was on the right path and that I had made the right decision.
After graduation, I wanted to create a place where I could share my love for gastronomy while incorporating my family’s roots and the meals I grew up eating. My love for Mexican cuisine runs deep. From tripe tacos to green chicken enchiladas and everything in between. Here is where you’ll find Mexican inspired recipes, as well as a few random dishes that come from innate cravings and at times scattered thoughts. I also share a deep love for baking; so you’ll most likely find tons of butter, flour and sugar on here as well.
I currently reside in a small town bordering Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley in the Californian desert with my partner Paul (my photographer) and our sweet lazy dog Milou. Our decision to move to the desert has been one of the best we’ve made. The immense peacefulness found here inspires my creativity, while still allowing me the space to be more present. I’ve grown to appreciate the silence the desert provides.
As I continue to grow and hone my craft, I’ll be sharing whatever bit knowledge I learn in hopes of not only educating, but inspring. I hope to inspire you to get in the kitchen, to be creative and have the confidence in putting together a meal.
